From 0bd61548ab8d1ac5fee63f48ee9b384502a51ad6 Mon Sep 17 00:00:00 2001 From: Tom Lane Date: Fri, 7 May 2004 00:24:59 +0000 Subject: [PATCH] Solve the 'Turkish problem' with undesirable locale behavior for case conversion of basic ASCII letters. Remove all uses of strcasecmp and strncasecmp in favor of new functions pg_strcasecmp and pg_strncasecmp; remove most but not all direct uses of toupper and tolower in favor of pg_toupper and pg_tolower. These functions use the same notions of case folding already developed for identifier case conversion. I left the straight locale-based folding in place for situations where we are just manipulating user data and not trying to match it to built-in strings --- for example, the SQL upper() function is still locale dependent. Perhaps this will prove not to be what's wanted, but at the moment we can initdb and pass regression tests in Turkish locale. --- configure | 3 +- configure.in | 4 +- contrib/ltree/lquery_op.c | 2 +- contrib/ltree/ltxtquery_op.c | 2 +- contrib/pgcrypto/internal.c | 4 +- contrib/pgcrypto/md5.c | 4 +- contrib/pgcrypto/mhash.c | 8 +- contrib/pgcrypto/pgcrypto.c | 33 +- contrib/pgcrypto/px-crypt.c | 4 +- contrib/pgcrypto/px.c | 4 +- contrib/pgcrypto/sha1.c | 10 +- contrib/spi/timetravel.c | 2 +- contrib/tsearch2/dict_ispell.c | 6 +- contrib/tsearch2/ispell/spell.c | 8 +- contrib/tsearch2/wparser_def.c | 10 +- src/Makefile.global.in | 4 +- src/backend/access/transam/xlog.c | 10 +- src/backend/commands/aggregatecmds.c | 20 +- src/backend/commands/define.c | 6 +- src/backend/commands/functioncmds.c | 6 +- src/backend/commands/operatorcmds.c | 28 +- src/backend/commands/tablecmds.c | 10 +- src/backend/commands/typecmds.c | 56 +-- src/backend/commands/variable.c | 36 +- src/backend/regex/regc_locale.c | 50 +-- src/backend/regex/regcomp.c | 24 +- src/backend/utils/adt/acl.c | 82 ++-- src/backend/utils/adt/bool.c | 14 +- src/backend/utils/adt/cash.c | 4 +- src/backend/utils/adt/date.c | 63 +-- src/backend/utils/adt/datetime.c | 12 +- src/backend/utils/adt/encode.c | 4 +- src/backend/utils/adt/float.c | 14 +- src/backend/utils/adt/formatting.c | 22 +- src/backend/utils/adt/numeric.c | 4 +- src/backend/utils/adt/regexp.c | 8 +- src/backend/utils/adt/regproc.c | 4 +- src/backend/utils/adt/tid.c | 4 +- src/backend/utils/adt/timestamp.c | 193 +++------ src/backend/utils/error/elog.c | 18 +- src/backend/utils/misc/guc.c | 94 ++--- src/bin/pg_dump/pg_backup_tar.c | 4 +- src/bin/psql/command.c | 14 +- src/bin/psql/common.c | 14 +- src/bin/psql/copy.c | 57 ++- src/bin/psql/describe.c | 4 +- src/bin/psql/help.c | 10 +- src/bin/psql/psqlscan.l | 7 +- src/bin/psql/tab-complete.c | 436 ++++++++++----------- src/include/c.h | 6 +- src/include/pg_config.h.in | 3 - src/include/port.h | 16 +- src/include/port/qnx4.h | 2 - src/include/port/ultrix4.h | 3 - src/include/regex/regcustom.h | 10 +- src/interfaces/ecpg/pgtypeslib/datetime.c | 4 +- src/interfaces/ecpg/pgtypeslib/dt_common.c | 12 +- src/interfaces/ecpg/preproc/preproc.y | 4 +- src/interfaces/libpq/Makefile | 8 +- src/interfaces/libpq/fe-exec.c | 5 +- src/interfaces/libpq/fe-protocol2.c | 4 +- src/interfaces/libpq/fe-protocol3.c | 4 +- src/interfaces/libpq/fe-secure.c | 4 +- src/interfaces/libpq/win32.h | 9 +- src/pl/plpython/plpython.c | 8 +- src/port/pgstrcasecmp.c | 125 ++++++ src/port/strcasecmp.c | 74 ---- 67 files changed, 819 insertions(+), 922 deletions(-) create mode 100644 src/port/pgstrcasecmp.c delete mode 100644 src/port/strcasecmp.c diff --git a/configure b/configure index 3490b9a695..9403fa4537 100755 --- a/configure +++ b/configure @@ -11744,8 +11744,7 @@ fi - -for ac_func in crypt fseeko getopt getrusage inet_aton random rint srandom strcasecmp strdup strerror strtol strtoul unsetenv +for ac_func in crypt fseeko getopt getrusage inet_aton random rint srandom strdup strerror strtol strtoul unsetenv do as_ac_var=`echo "ac_cv_func_$ac_func" | $as_tr_sh` echo "$as_me:$LINENO: checking for $ac_func" >&5 diff --git a/configure.in b/configure.in index 8ddb6b7372..1cad0dbe28 100644 --- a/configure.in +++ b/configure.in @@ -1,5 +1,5 @@ dnl Process this file with autoconf to produce a configure script. -dnl $PostgreSQL: pgsql/configure.in,v 1.344 2004/05/05 21:18:29 tgl Exp $ +dnl $PostgreSQL: pgsql/configure.in,v 1.345 2004/05/07 00:24:57 tgl Exp $ dnl dnl Developers, please strive to achieve this order: dnl @@ -858,7 +858,7 @@ else AC_CHECK_FUNCS([fpclass fp_class fp_class_d class], [break]) fi -AC_REPLACE_FUNCS([crypt fseeko getopt getrusage inet_aton random rint srandom strcasecmp strdup strerror strtol strtoul unsetenv]) +AC_REPLACE_FUNCS([crypt fseeko getopt getrusage inet_aton random rint srandom strdup strerror strtol strtoul unsetenv]) # system's version of getaddrinfo(), if any, may be used only if we found # a definition for struct addrinfo; see notes in src/include/getaddrinfo.h diff --git a/contrib/ltree/lquery_op.c b/contrib/ltree/lquery_op.c index 2328fcd238..81a1b788aa 100644 --- a/contrib/ltree/lquery_op.c +++ b/contrib/ltree/lquery_op.c @@ -91,7 +91,7 @@ checkLevel(lquery_level * curq, ltree_level * curt) for (i = 0; i < curq->numvar; i++) { - cmpptr = (curvar->flag & LVAR_INCASE) ?
