  38     <p>This Multi-Processing Module (MPM) implements an exclusively
  39     threaded web server that has been optimized for Novell
  40     NetWare.</p>

  42     <p>The main thread is responsible for launching child
  43     worker threads which listen for connections and serve them when they
  44     arrive. Apache HTTP Server always tries to maintain several <dfn>spare</dfn>
  45     or idle worker threads, which stand ready to serve incoming
  46     requests. In this way, clients do not need to wait for a new
  47     child threads to be spawned before their requests can be
  48     served.</p>

  50     <p>The <code class="directive"><a href="../mod/mpm_common.html#startthreads">StartThreads</a></code>,
  51     <code class="directive"><a href="../mod/mpm_common.html#minsparethreads">MinSpareThreads</a></code>,

  53     <code class="directive"><a href="#maxthreads">MaxThreads</a></code>
  54     regulate how the main thread creates worker threads to serve
  55     requests. In general, Apache httpd is very self-regulating, so most
  56     sites do not need to adjust these directives from their default
  57     values. Sites with limited memory may need to decrease <code class="directive"><a href="#maxthreads">MaxThreads</a></code> to keep the server from
  58     thrashing (spawning and terminating idle threads). More information
