  36     <p>This Multi-Processing Module (MPM) implements an exclusively
  37     threaded web server that has been optimized for Novell
  38     NetWare.</p>

  40     <p>The main thread is responsible for launching child
  41     worker threads which listen for connections and serve them when they
  42     arrive. Apache HTTP Server always tries to maintain several <dfn>spare</dfn>
  43     or idle worker threads, which stand ready to serve incoming
  44     requests. In this way, clients do not need to wait for a new
  45     child threads to be spawned before their requests can be
  46     served.</p>

  48     <p>The <code class="directive"><a href="../mod/mpm_common.html#startthreads">StartThreads</a></code>,
  49     <code class="directive"><a href="../mod/mpm_common.html#minsparethreads">MinSpareThreads</a></code>,

  52     regulate how the main thread creates worker threads to serve
  53     requests. In general, Apache httpd is very self-regulating, so most
  54     sites do not need to adjust these directives from their default
  55     values. Sites with limited memory may need to decrease <code class="directive"><a href="#maxthreads">MaxThreads</a></code> to keep the server from
  56     thrashing (spawning and terminating idle threads). More information

  62     ones and launching new ones. On the NetWare OS it is highly

  64     threads to continue servicing requests indefinitely.</p>
